Virginia McElveen - one of the Columbia City Ballet’s original ballerinas, she received her dance training from Lanneau Foster, Ann Brodie, Naomi Calvert, Michael Lland, Adolina Suarez-More, Igor Schwezoff, Royz Fernandez and Tommy Lybrand. During her career as Prima Ballerina with City Ballet, she danced such roles as Odette in Swan Lake, Sugar Plum Fairy in Nutcracker, Myrtha in Giselle, Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, lead ballerina in Paquita, and Grisi in The Grand Pas de Quatre. Ginny’s choreography has been seen in performances of Eboni Dance Theatre, USC, Columbia Lyric Opera, Ann Brodie’s Carolina Ballet, Orangeburg Civic Ballet and Columbia Southeast Dance Ensemble as well as Piccolo Spoleto, Mayfest and Costa del Sol, Spain. Virginia is the director of Columbia Dance Associates.
